The southernmost town in Shenandoah County is a haven for history lovers and a place where the Battle of New Market occurred in 1864. It is also home to the Virginia Museum of the Civil War which offers special insight into the story of the VMI cadets’ role in the Battle of New Market as well as other in-depth exhibits focusing on the lives of the families who were affected.
