New Market
The southernmost town in Shenandoah County is a haven for history lovers and a place where the Battle of New Market occurred in 1864. This town honors its past and offers a welcoming place where visitors enjoy the timeless and nostalgic like the Shenvalee Golf Resort and the Southern Kitchen Restaurant or quirky and cool like Jon Henry General Store, Crazy Fox Roasting Company at the Jackson’s Corner Café, and Skydive Shenandoah based at the New Market Airport. It is also home to the Virginia Museum of the Civil War which offers special insight into the story of the VMI cadets’ role in the Battle of New Market as well as other in-depth exhibits focusing on the lives of the families who were affected.
