OHV & ATV Trails

Lovers of the outdoors will find plenty to do in the Shenandoah County area. Hiking, fishing, camping, skiing, biking, and much more are just a stone’s throw from each other in this rich, varied region. The deep, wooded forests and mountain trails lend themselves to various adventures—including exhilarating motorized pursuits on Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) and All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs).

Explore the Peters Mill Run/Taskers Gap OHV System

The Peters Mill Run/Taskers Gap OHV System, nestled within the Lee Ranger District of the George Washington National Forest trails complex, is hailed as one of Virginia's premier off-roading destinations, with 36 miles of off-roading fun suitable for drivers of all skill levels.

For those seeking a memorable outing with family and friends, this adventure is just the ticket. Permits are required, reasonably priced, and available as one-day, three-day, and yearly passes. They’re not sold onsite and may only be purchased from local vendors in the adjoining town of Edinburg and several other towns throughout the County.. Consult the USDA Forest Service site for a list of these locations, vehicle guidelines, and a detailed map.

There are three parking areas—Edinburg Gap, Taskers Gap Trailhead, and Peters Mill Run North Trailhead–with access to the trails. Be sure to bring your own water or a good filter, as there are no potable water sources. Motorized vehicles, including ATVs, are allowed from early April to early January, while bikes and other non-motorized types are permitted year round.
