The Kennedy's Peak Loop is a favorite for both local equestrians and visitors alike. A stone and timber fire tower atop the Peak offers amazing 360 degree views along the ridge of the Massanutten Mountains with the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Allegheny Mountains to the west. Below the peak, the South Fork of the Shenandoah River wanders through the Shenandoah Valley below. Fall is a favorite time to soak in all the colors the valley has to offer The observation deck of the tower provides a great spot for a lunch break, including a tie rail for horses just below the tower.
The Kennedy's Peak Loop consists of Stephens Trail and a portion of the Massanutten Trail. The loop is approximately 9 miles in length. Public horse trailer parking is available in the Camp Roosevelt Recreation Area of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. Fort Valley Ranch offers overnight accommodations for horse and rider including cabins, campsites with hookups, and corrals with trail access to the Kennedy's Peak Loop. The Ranch also offers full day guided rides to the peak on their Ranch horses.
