The first day of Spring may be March 19, but April is Garden Month. In honor of that, foodies and nature enthusiasts alike are invited to “eat green” in Shenandoah County … though not in the way that you might think. Surround yourself with colorful blooms and lush greenery as you experience the interconnectedness between food and nature on a more personal level. For a truly unique dining experience, we rounded up some places throughout the county where you can dine amongst plants. Enjoy the beauty of nature while treating your palate to a feast of locally sourced ingredients at these locations:

Coffee to Grow

5946 Main Street, Mount Jackson

Shenandoah County’s coffee options are truly growing with this new business, which is a combination coffee and plant shop. With unique offerings like Nutella banana cold brew or orange mocha served in a showplace for a variety of plants, horticulturists and coffee-lovers alike have found a new favorite place to stop and shop.

Third Hill Winery at DeMello Vineyards

2110 Quicksburg Road, Quicksburg

Sip amongst spring blooms at DeMello Vineyards. In addition to the beautiful backdrop of grape vines against the mountains, wine drinkers can sit outside and simply admire the variety of flowers in the garden. The winery also offers yoga classes and can double as an event venue, so there are multiple ways to immerse yourself in nature here.

Woodbine Farm Market

5199 John Marshall Highway, Strasburg

This family-owned market is an extension of the nearby land that has been farmed for five generations. Hungry patrons can grab made-to-order sandwiches and then set out for a picnic. If dining on open farmland isn’t quite your style, there’s a picnic shelter on site, too. The farm market is complete with a playground and even a pet area, so this stop welcomes visitors of all ages … and breeds. Want to be able to dine with Mother Nature but in your own home? Be sure to get herbs, planters and garden supplies at the market before you leave.

Woodstock Garden Café

1175 Hisey Avenue, Woodstock

We’ll let the name speak for itself! Your meal and dining experience will be truly immersive, because many of the fresh and local ingredients used here come straight from the gardens outside the café. The menu changes throughout the year, just as the plants in the surrounding nursery change from season to season. You can expect tasty salads, sandwiches, breakfast items and a flavorful cup of coffee to always make an appearance.
