Frequently called a valley-within-a-valley, legend has it that the first road into Fort Valley was carved out by Daniel Morgan at the order of George Washington during the American Revolution. It was Washington’s “Plan B”, a natural fortress to hole up his troops as a possible last stand against the British Army. Fortunately, he didn’t need it.
Fort Valley remains a beautiful hideaway today. Visitors can enjoy a scenic drive, perfect for motorcycles and convertibles. Stay in a number of quiet, secluded rental homes, hike the National Forest or spend time at a friendly horse ranch where guided tours on horseback are available year-round.
