Romantic Weekend Getaway

What better way to enjoy time with your loved one than a relaxing, romantic getaway in the heart of the scenic Shenandoah Valley!

Take in the sunset over the Appalachian mountains, enjoy a bottle of local wine at one of the area’s many award-winning vineyards or settle in for the evening at a local bed & breakfast or cozy cabin in the mountains or along the Shenandoah River.

DAY 1

Begin your romantic retreat with a stop at Shenandoah Vineyards, the oldest vineyard in the Shenandoah Valley and the second oldest vineyard in the state.  Relax over a warm glass of mulled wine. Next, head to historic downtown Edinburg for a tour of the Shenandoah Valley Cultural Heritage Museum at Edinburg Mill. Step back in time as you explore their treasure trove of collections including three floors of transportation, farm, clothing and textiles, household and business items showing life as it was in the Valley before savoring a relaxing dinner at the Edinburg Mill Restaurant.   For those looking to stay out a bit later, the nearby Woodstock Brewhouse offers a great selection of craft beers or settle into one of Shenandoah County’s unique bed & breakfasts for a quieter evening.   Prefer a little privacy, check out one of the many vacation rental homes or cozy cabins in the area.

DAY 2

The next morning, wake up to enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast from RT 11 Diner  The specialize in southern cuisine, comfort food, and daily specials with out-of-this-world flavors and an at-home feel.

Settle down at the Winery at Kindred Pointe, where you can enjoy wine tastings and a leisurely stroll along their many on-site trails. Outside food is welcome, so feel free to pack a picnic from one of the local cafes or markets. After some relaxation at the vineyard, take a short scenic drive to Meems Bottom Covered Bridge located in Mount Jackson. One of the best-known covered bridges in Virginia, this 204-foot single-span Burr arch-truss bridge was originally built in 1894. After enjoying the views and beauty of winter, take a short drive to Strasburg for a nice dinner at Box Office Brewery, where you can indulge in brick oven pizza and delicious handhelds. The dining room was once a theater, now renovated to reflect the cultural and historic character of the town. After dining, explore Strasburg’s many antique shops, and other unique shops in their historic downtown.

DAY 3

No trip to Shenandoah County is complete without taking in the beautiful vistas and breathtaking scenery.   If looking for a short hike, the Woodstock Tower or Story Book Trail offers outstanding views with easily accessible trails for all abilities.  In fact, Story Book Trail is even handicapped accessible.  Those looking for more adventure can tackle Big Schloss which straddles the Virginia/West Virginia border and is perfect for selfies atop the rock outcrops at the end of the trail. Arrive early in the morning for this worthwhile hike. The parking lot is small and a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Enjoy a meal afterward at the Woodstock Garden Cafe where you can re-energize over a hearty sandwich and soup combo or warm up over a cup of locally roasted coffee.
