PET FRIENDLY VACATIONS
Here in Shenandoah County, we know that many of our visitors enjoy traveling with their dogs, so we have just the weekend for you and your loyal companion to enjoy together. The region offers numerous hikes throughout the George Washington National Forest, public river access, and plenty of pet friendly restaurants, wineries and breweries to relax afterwards. Cool down with a splash in the Shenandoah River and unwind at a pet-friendly vacation rental home or hotel.
DAY 1
DAY 2
A great place to start is the family and pet friendly Strasburg Town Park. After playing and walking around the park, stroll over to the easily accessible Shenandoah River Walk where you can dip your foot, or paw, to cool down while enjoying the beautiful sounds and sights. Head back to Route 11, and to the lovely North Mountain Vineyard and Winery where the rolling hills of grapevines present you with your own private getaway. They love having your four-legged friend accompany you as you enjoy their red, white, and blush wines. The owners are friendly and so are their pups. For dinner, many of the eating establishments back in Woodstock offer outdoor seating when the weather is nice and are happy to bring out a bowl of water for furry companions.
DAY 3
Enjoy the day strolling the streets of downtown Woodstock. Many shops set water dishes outside for thirsty dogs. Walk the beautifully landscaped sidewalk as you pass by churches, family-owned shops, and the Historic Courthouse that is a standing piece of history, built in 1795. After making your rounds, stop by the Woodstock Café to enjoy more outside seating as you try any of their menu items. The café is a local and widely recognized favorite that features sandwiches, salads, soups, Route 11 potato chips, and home-baked goodies. Sometimes they even have home-baked items just for dogs. From there, venture on a scenic drive along Route 42 to Swover Creek Farm Brewery for a cold pint along with a wood-fired pizza oven, farm crafted sausages or homemade pretzel rolls. This farm brewery also features a dog park out back so your pup can get out some last minute energy before heading home.
