Discover the route that  thousands of settlers ventured along by wagon.  Often referred to as “The Wilderness Road”,  many early U.S. settlers can be traced back to Shenandoah County as they migrated west in search of new frontiers. As result, many families can trace their history through the Shenandoah Valley including Shenandoah County. Let our resources  at the Shenandoah County Archives within the Shenandoah County Library or the volunteers at the Shenandoah County Historical Society guide you in your path to discovery.

Located in the Shenandoah County Historic Courthouse, the Historical Society offers a wealth of information pertaining to the history of Shenandoah County and the Valley itself.  Explore countless books depicting the history of the valley, prominent families within the County and more.  The friendly Historical Society volunteers are happy to answer questions and assist.
