Shenandoah County is the perfect destination for those traveling with pets.
Here in Shenandoah County, we understand that bringing your furry friend along is sometimes preferred, so we have just the weekend for you and loyal companion to enjoy together. We welcome you to the charming town of Woodstock, where the Comfort Inn happily accommodates both two and four footed guests.
Let your dog burn off some steam after a long day in the car at the Fairview Dog Park off North Road in Woodstock or grab the leash, and toy of choice and celebrate the sunshine and mountain air as you either walk or drive to W.O. Riley Park just north of the hotel. The recently renovated park features beautiful walking paths fit for a picnic to end your evening before venturing back to your hotel room. Or take your pick of hikes throughout the George Washington National Forest for your best friend to explore. Buzzzard Rock, Kepler Overlook, and Crisman Hollow Trails all over spectacular views of the valley.
Take a stroll down Main Street and stop at Nate & Main and PJ Designs where dogs are not only welcome but showered with pets. Unwind at the end of the day with a cold brew at the Woodstock Brewhouse where dogs are always welcome on the patio and they even provide fresh water so your pup has a drink to enjoy as well. The Sugar Shack also offers plenty of outdoor seating and owners can cool down with a scoop of ice cream or live music on the 1st Friday of the month. This is also the site of Iquana Taco, offering fantastic, authentic and fresh tacos.
Begin your morning by enjoying the complimentary breakfast at the hotel, and maybe sneaking back a sausage or two for your pet patiently waiting for your return. Then it’s time to venture out and visit the family and pet friendly Strasburg Town Park. After playing and walking around the park, stroll over to the easily accessible Shenandoah River where you can dip your foot, or paw, to cool down while enjoying the beautiful sounds and sights. Head back to Route 11, and to the lovely North Mountain Vineyard and Winery where the rolling hills of grapevines presents you with your own private getaway. They love allowing your four-legged friend accompany you as you enjoy their red, white, and blush wines. Meet not only the friendly owners, but meet their wandering pets as well. If you guys aren’t tuckered out yet, consider heading to Ridge Runner Farm Brewery for craft beer and locally sourced sandwiches. They’ve got plenty of outdoor space to accommodate your furry friend.
Don’t fill up too much before checking out of the hotel, because downtown Woodstock is calling your name. Many shops offer water dishes outside for thirsty pooches. Walk the beautifully landscaped sidewalk as you pass by churches, family-owned shops, and the Historic Court House that is a standing piece of history, built in 1795. Make sure you stop in The Virginia Farmhouse, a shop full of items of all kind varying from wines from regional favorites, homemade trinkets, handmade jewelry, and home baked pet treats that are all the rage between furry friends. After making your rounds, stop by the Woodstock Café and Shoppes to enjoy more outside seating as you try any of their menu items, for they are all sure to please. The café is a local and widely recognized favorite that features sandwiches galore, salads, soups, Route 11 potato chips, and home baked goodies. As badly as we know you and your furry friend don’t want to leave, it will be time to return home, but not before you grab a cup of coffee to go and a few more smiles from the locals.
The best way to experience an area is to do as the locals do and what better way to discover the local flair of Shenandoah County than by experiencing many of our unique finds and local flavors!
