OUTDOOR LOVER’S PARADISE

DAY 1

When it comes to being outdoors, nothing compares to the Shenandoah County experience! Begin your journey, settling in to Shenandoah Valley Campground, where you can choose to drive in your RV, bunk in a cabin, or pitch a tent. The updated campground offers a plethora of amenities including a snack bar, camp store, bath house, laundry facility, dish washing station, playground, and is pet friendly! Bring anyone and everyone, right down to your furry family members. Cool down from unpacking and setting up by taking a dive in the pool before heading into town to enjoy Johnny Appleseed, a must go restaurant while you’re in Shenandoah County. Try one of their many famous menu items ranging from fried catfish, fried chicken, and the best crab cakes in the Shenandoah Valley. Johnny Apple Seed opened its doors over 35 years ago, and has been filling hungry stomachs from locals and visitors far and wide ever since.

DAY 2

Wake up to the birds chirping, and the beautiful sunrise over the mountain top. What better way to begin your day than stopping into Kathy’s Home Cooking Café in New Market. Let Kathy’s take you down memory lane of childhood summers with homemade breakfast first thing in the morning. Hope you didn’t forget to wear your tennis shoes because you’re going to need them as you make your way to the recently re-designed Zip line Adventure at Bryce Resort. The 2 hour guided tour flies you 80 feet in the air and through 10 different lines reaching almost 40 miles per hour. Try to catch the view of the mountainside as you crisscross above the treetops and over the slopes of Bryce Resort.

If you’re up for more excitement, don’t stop there! Grab a mountain bike, and head back up the mountain on the chair lift. Pedal 30 miles per hour over bridges, rocks, dirt down and through the mountains of Virginia. After the heart-racing experiences, dance into the night with the weekend’s live entertainment featured at Bryce’s Copper Kettle Bar & Lounge. If you’re into the more reserved and quiet setting, the resort offers the same menu in the restaurant portion as well. Finish up the night by sitting around the community fire pit or your own fire back at the campground, as you rehearse the experiences and stories from the exciting day.

DAY 3

Take in the fresh mountain air, as you wake up for the last morning in the quiet and serene setting that is rare to find many places. Lace up those tennis shoes once more as you head down the road to the Massanutten Storybook Trail. This .5 mile, interpretive hike leads you through a scenic paved path and onto a break-taking lookout. If you’re up for a leisurely drive down Route 11 afterwards, head into Strasburg to explore one of the most family and kid friendly accesses to the Shenandoah River in the Shenandoah Valley, Strasburg Towne Park. On the return back to the campground to pack up, stop by Queen Street Diner, which is home to good food and good company. An endless menu of different cuisines will be sure to fit anyone’s taste buds. As you hit the road and look back at all the fun memories and pictures you took as you soaked up the sun, the mountains, and water in Shenandoah County!
